Ciudad de Mexico
Thursday the population of Mexico City changed from 20 million to 2,000,002. It's such a small town that we're constantly bumping into people we know. ?Que pasa, amigo? Mike's Spanish is rudimentary... so far he's explained to people that he's pregnant, horny and that canadian food consists of books.
We went to two museums yesterday and got accosted by a clown with a Rick James hairstyle.
Fact: In Mexico, you can buy wrestling masks everywhere, shiny ones.
Fact: Air Canada showed the movie Nacho Libre on our way here... coincidence?
Useful Spanish words to know:
el bano -- the bathroom
luchador -- wrestler
peligroso -- danger
taco -- taco
ardilla -- squirrel
deportista -- sportsman
saltamontes -- grasshopper
aguila -- eagle
Speaking of el aguila, the Aztecs founded the city here because they saw an eagle with a snake in its mouth on top of a cactus which was their signal from the gods. Now that scene is depicted on their flag. Which do you like better, that or a maple leaf?
Armando is a great host and his family has been very hospitable. The house is beautiful and our room is cozy with family photos lining the walls: trips to Washington, San Francisco, the Alamo, Honolulu, Cancun, New York, etc.
Last night we went to a wild party. $20 cover but drinks included, Heineken, Jaggermeister and some sort of tequila. Most of the city was there. It was an open-air version of the Liquor Dome, with porta-potties. They were actually bringing sexy back.
Later, {K}/Mike
